Watch the Discussion with Author Elizabeth Johnson on Her Book “Come, Have Breakfast”
On Thursday, May 7, twenty-eight people from across the diocese gathered on Zoom to hear from renowned Author Elizabeth A. Johnson regarding her book “Come, Have Breakfast: Meditations on God and the Earth.” The book was selected for this year’s One Book, One Diocese reading and discussion put on annually by the Peace and Justice committee, and this year co-sponsored by Eco DioChicago, the diocesan creation care committee.
The discussion ranged from theological reflection on Jesus’ embracing of humanity—understood as an embracing of all creation, often called “deep incarnation”—to practical questions about our role as God’s ambassadors to the whole of creation. It emphasized engaging with the natural world, recognizing that we will not protect what we do not love, and cannot love what we do not know.
