If you have been asked to serve as treasurer of your congregation and would like to be confident that you are prepared for the task, consider enrolling in the Certified Church Treasurer Program.

The independent study program is offered entirely online, and has an estimated completion time of nine to 40 hours. Finance committee members would also benefit from this immersion in the church’s auditing, bookkeeping and business practices.

Course materials include The Manual of Business Methods in Church Affairs (English and Spanish); Audit Guide for Churches in the Diocese of Chicago; tax guide for Episcopal Churches; tax guide for Episcopal Ministers; diocesan Budget and Management Guidelines and the diocesan canons.

From 2014 to 2018, almost 36 individuals from 29 congregations have received certificates, and the 2019 class is our largest yet.

Participants must pass an open book test and complete parish process improvement projects to the satisfaction of either a warden or the clergy member in charge of the congregation.

An application for the class of 2020 will be online soon.
