If you have been asked to serve as treasurer of your congregation and would like to be confident that you are prepared for the task, consider enrolling in the Certified Church Treasurer Program. The independent study program is offered entirely online, and has an estimated completion time of 9 to 40 hours. Finance committee members would also benefit from this immersion in the church’s auditing, bookkeeping, and business practices.

Course materials include The Manual of Business Methods in Church Affairs (English and Spanish); Audit Guide for Churches in the Diocese of Chicago; Tax Guide for Episcopal Clergy; Tax Guide for Episcopal Churches; 2026 Budget Guidelines; and the diocesan canons.

Since the program began in 2014, more than 50 individuals from 39 congregations have received certificates.

Participants must pass an open book test and complete parish process improvement projects (examples of improvements) to the satisfaction of either a warden or the clergy member in charge of the congregation.

To apply, please complete the application. For more information contact Keith Kampert, treasurer, by email.
