Dear Friends in Christ:

Alleluia, Christ is Risen!

As Easter people, we know that the miracle of the Resurrection offers us new life in Christ. But a whole new life is a lot to think about! Not all Easter people respond to the Good News in the same way.

In John’s gospel, Mary Magdalene boldly announces, “I have seen the Lord!” She is not shy or afraid to proclaim the miracle she has seen. But in Mark’s Easter story, the women at the tomb are terrified. They flee from the tomb and say nothing to anyone.

Maybe we can all identify a little bit with Cleopas and his companion, whose story we read in Luke’s gospel. They are on the road to Emmaus, walking away from Jerusalem, where Jesus has been crucified and laid in a tomb. They want to get out of there! While they are traveling along the road, Jesus comes to walk with them, but they do not recognize him. They are so sad and so sure that their hopes for the future have been dashed that they cannot see Jesus standing right before their very eyes. Not until he takes bread and blesses it do they realize that Christ is risen.

The news of the Resurrection is powerful and life-changing—and sometimes, like Cleopas and his companion, we are not quite ready for it. No matter where we are along the road of faith, Jesus is always right there walking beside us, waiting for us to proclaim to all the world that He is Risen!

Queridos Amigos en Cristo:

¡Aleluya, Cristo ha Resucitado!

Como personas de Pascua, sabemos que el milagro de la Resurrección nos ofrece una nueva vida en Cristo. ¡Pero una vida completamente nueva es mucho en que pensar! No todas las personas de Pascua responden a la Buena Nueva de la misma manera.

En el evangelio de Juan, María Magdalena anuncia audazmente: “¡He visto al Señor!” No es tímida ni tiene miedo de proclamar el milagro que ha visto. Pero en la historia de la Pascua de Marcos, las mujeres en la tumba están aterrorizadas. Huyen de la tumba y no dicen nada a nadie.

Tal vez todos podamos identificarnos un poco con Cleofás y su compañero, cuya historia leemos en el evangelio de Lucas. Están en el camino a Emaús, alejándose de Jerusalén, donde Jesús ha sido crucificado y puesto en una tumba. ¡Quieren salir de ahí! Mientras viajan por el camino, Jesús viene a caminar con ellos, pero no lo reconocen. Están tan tristes y tan seguros de que sus esperanzas para el futuro se han desvanecido que no pueden ver a Jesús parado ante sus propios ojos. Hasta que no toma el pan y lo bendice, se dan cuenta de que Cristo ha resucitado.

La noticia de la Resurrección es poderosa y cambia la vida, y a veces, como Cleofás y su compañero, no estamos preparados para ella. ¡No importa dónde estemos en el camino de la fe, Jesús siempre está aquí caminando a nuestro lado, esperando que proclamemos a todo el mundo que Él ha Resucitado!
