Antiracism Training Offerings: In-Person and Virtual Options from Crossroads

The Antiracism Commission is responsible for evaluating and recommending antiracism workshops and trainings that meet the diocesan requirements for clergy and lay leaders. The commission also negotiates diocese-subsidized rates for Episcopal clergy, lay leaders, and staff. Current trainings offered by Crossroads Antiracism and Organizing are described below.

Animating Antiracist Ways of Being (one-day)

Satisfies requirement of one-day of anti-racism training for elected and appointed diocesan lay leaders and staff. This course is a prerequisite for the three-day training required of clergy. Training should be repeated every five years.

The Animating Antiracist Ways of Being workshop (formerly called Introduction to Antiracism) offered by Crossroads builds a foundation of shared analysis of systemic oppression among colleagues, establishes skills for talking about race and racism, and introduces participants to Crossroads’ applied tools for dismantling racism: an equation framework to describe systemic racism, an applied power analysis, and the Continuum on Becoming an Antiracist Institution.

  • In-Person Training on Saturday, April 6 from  9 am-5 pm Central at Grace Episcopal Church, 209 N. Pine Street, New Lenox, IL 60451. This is a public offering, not customized for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. Register online at Crossroads with the access code EDOC1day. You will not be charged at registration.   • In-Person Training on Saturday, May 11, from 9 am – 5 pm Central at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Glen Ellyn, IL. This is an exclusive offering customized for the Diocese of Chicago. The registration cost is $20 per person, attendance is limited to 40 people.  Register online with the Diocese of Chicago for the May 11, 2024 diocesan offering of Animating Antiracist Ways. The cost of the private offering, $20 per person, will be charged at registration.

  • Online Animating Antiracism Ways of Being trainings will be offered on Wednesday, April 17; Wednesday, June 12; and Saturday, July 13. Register online at Crossroads with the access code EDOC130 for a diocese-subsidized rate. (Please see Instructions on How to Register on Crossroads Website.)

From White Supremacy Toward Liberation (three-day)

Satisfies clergy requirement of three days of antiracism training. Prerequisite is the one-day Animating Antiracist Ways of Being. Training should be repeated every five years.

This Crossroads workshop builds upon the foundation of their Animating Antiracist Ways of Being training. From White Supremacy Toward Liberation is an intensive workshop that explores a power analysis of white supremacy and systemic racism in the United States.
