Preparing for the Paschal Feast

Holy Week retreats in Chicago on April 12, Rock Island on April 13

On Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week, April 12 and 13, Bishop Chilton Knudsen and Bishop-elect Paula Clark will host two half-day retreats in preparation for Easter. The theme will be “Vocation as Liberation and Limitation.”
The April 12 retreat at St. James Commons (65 E. Huron) and St. James Cathedral will begin at 10 am with a presentation from Bishop Chilton and small-group discussions. The 12:10 pm liturgy with the blessing of chrism will be followed by an optional lunch at 1 pm.
On April 13, a similar program will be offered at All Saints Episcopal Church in Rock Island (3145 31st Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201), including a program, noon liturgy with the blessing of chrism, and optional lunch at 1 pm.
The retreats are open to clergy and lay leaders, and all members of the diocese are invited to participate at either location. Both events are free, but registration by April 7 is required to accommodate catering deadlines. Register online.
Please note the following:
  • Containers for chrism will be provided.
  • Masks are required during the program, and optional during worship (with opportunities for social distancing).
  • Clergy are invited to vest and process. Festal color is white, dress is alb & stole or cassock, surplus & stole.
