Dear Friends in Christ:
As my time as your bishop winds down, I have begun to do some things with the people of this diocese for the last time. Many of these occasions are bittersweet, but I am looking forward with great joy to celebrating the holy seasons of Advent and Christmas as your bishop one last time.
Advent, as you have no doubt been told from pulpits throughout the years, is a time of expectation, and a time of preparation. One of the tasks I am preparing for in the coming year is briefing my successor on the health and vitality of this diocese. I hope you will contribute to our financial health by making a donation to the Bishop’s Appeal.
The appeal supports our operating budget, and while that may not sound glamorous, it is nonetheless essential. Proceeds from the appeal ensure that we can proclaim the gospel, support our congregations, perform acts of mercy and pursue justice from a solid platform.
Throughout my tenure, I have been impressed by the generosity of the people of this diocese, and it will please me greatly to extol your virtues to my successor. Please help us conclude the 2019 Bishop’s Appeal with a flourish by making a contribution today. And may God lead you ever deeper into the mystery of the Incarnation as you celebrate this blessed season.
The Rt. Rev. Jeffrey D. Lee, Bishop of Chicago
