Advent Reboot/Adviento de reiniciar: A Message From Bishop Clark
Dear Friends:
We are midway through Advent, which is my favorite season of the church year. I love Advent because, as the church year begins anew, we have the opportunity to reboot our identity as Christians. As we await the birth of the infant Jesus, we can look once more for Christ in our lives, knowing with fresh urgency that while the Saviour comes for the whole world, he comes also for us as individuals, with all of our sorrows and tribulations. We hear that promise in this Sunday’s lesson from Isaiah when the prophet tells us, “Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.”
My prayer partner during Advent is a layperson, and I have been so grateful for the opportunity to meditate together on our relationships with Christ and the different ways that we minister in Christ’s name. Even as the rest of the world is urging us to shop and concern ourselves with parties and holiday meals (not that I don’t love parties and meals!), we are taking time to get our interiors in line while the rest of the world tends to exterior things.
This Sunday, the Third Sunday in Advent, is sometimes called Gaudete Sunday. It is a day to celebrate the joy of the coming Christmas season and embrace the mystery of the Incarnation. As you celebrate, I hope that you, too, will take the chance to reboot, and to look for the Christ who dwells in your heart.

Estamos a mitad de la época de Adviento, que es mi época favorita del año de la iglesia. Me encanta el Adviento porque, a medida que el año de la iglesia comienza de nuevo, tenemos la oportunidad de reiniciar nuestra identidad como Cristianos. Mientras esperamos el nacimiento del niño Jesús, podemos buscar una vez más a Cristo en nuestras vidas, sabiendo con nueva urgencia que mientras el Salvador viene por todo el mundo, también viene por nosotros como individuos, con todos nuestros dolores y tribulaciones. Escuchamos esa promesa en la lección de Isaías de este domingo cuando el profeta nos dice: “Aquí está tu Dios. Él vendrá con venganza, con terrible recompensa. Él vendrá y te salvará”.
Mi compañero de oración durante el Adviento es un laico, y he estado muy agradecida por la oportunidad de meditar juntos sobre nuestras relaciones con Cristo y las diferentes formas en que ministramos en el nombre de Cristo. A pesar de que el resto del mundo nos insta a comprar y preocuparnos por las fiestas y las comidas navideñas (¡no es que no me gusten las fiestas y las comidas!), nos estamos tomando el tiempo para alinear nuestros interiores mientras que el resto del mundo tiende a las cosas exteriores.
Este domingo, el tercer domingo de Adviento, a veces se llama Domingo Gaudete. Es un día para celebrar la alegría de la próxima temporada navideña y abrazar el misterio de la Encarnación. Mientras celebren, espero que ustedes también aprovechen la oportunidad para reiniciar y buscar al Cristo que mora en su corazón.
No se conformen a esta era, sino transfórmense por la renovación de la mente.
