The 2018 Bishop’s Appeal campaign raised $183,303, exceeding its budget goal of $150,000 by more than 22 percent and posting an increase of more than $21,000 over 2017. The campaign was conducted during Eastertide and Advent.
The Bishop’s Appeal provides funding for the bishop’s staff, which directs programs including the College for Congregational Development, Fierce Conversations and other initiatives aimed at fostering congregational vitality. It also supports congregations during clergy transitions and other periods of change, and diocesan-wide programs including Camp Chicago, a summer camp for children and youth.
“In my years as your bishop, I’ve come to understand that the seeds of transformation are sown most effectively through the day-to-day ministry of congregations in their home communities,” wrote Bishop Lee in a December letter asking for contributions. “My work is to enhance your work. The same is true of my capable and committed staff. But the degree to which we can do that depends in some measure on your generosity.”
The 2019 Bishop’s Appeal campaign will begin in April. More information about the Bishop’s Appeal is available on the diocesan website. Crystal Plummer, director of networking on the bishop’s staff, oversees the appeal and can be reached at 312.751.3577 or via email.
